ANKUR
Blossoming childhood in Aanganwadi centres
Anganwadi centres run by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is the only available pre-school education for children in the indigenous communities of the Mukki region. Quality has been a major issue in these centres. Through ANKUR, we aim to mitigate the quality concerns and thereby improve the learning outcomes of children by building on their physical, social, cognitive, language and emotional development under an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) initiative.
The key objectives of the ANKUR ECCE initiative are:
- To build capacities of Anganwadi workers to conduct ECCE activities in centres.
- To make children between the ages of 3- 6 years better prepared for their transition into primary schools.
- To sensitize the community on the importance of ECCE and ensure its participation through Mothers committees (Mata Samiti).
- To support the centres with ECCE kits which include Teacher Learning Materials (TLMs) and transform centres to joyful learning establishments.
Use of technology and improving basic infrastructure are embedded into the program.
